No. These people just want to rape the wallets of people who are close to an autistic person, of people who are autistic, and of people who are moved by their fake propaganda of how they feel autistic people feel and act. As a mildly autistic person, I find these people offensive and…well, it’s just extremely difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t have autism what it’s like to have autism.
I am a teacher's aide for children with severe disabilities, and while I love my children with all my heart for who they are, I absolutely support finding a cure. I watch children reach their breaking point everyday over their inability to connect and communicate their wants and needs, their inabilty to control themselves. I have to watch one of my student beat herself constantly over the head and tear a gaping hole in the back of her neck because her sensory needs are so astronomically unbalanced. Her mother has to shave her hair, because she would tear it out in bloody clumps otherwise. Her smile is the most beautiful thing in the world, and yes, I do support something that would let me see more of those.
I don't quite understand what you're saying, but let me clarify that the children I teach are non verbal and struggle with communication, among other things. I speak only of low functioning autism, of course- those who are able to advocate for themselves should absolutely do so! I understand that not every person with autism want a cure, and no one is trying to force one on you, but for those who suffer everyday because of the more severe forms of this disorder, I think it's selfish to deny them relief.
I hope spoken to a lot of children who were called low functioning autistic have been damaged a lot by the label. And it seems whenever autistics advocate for what is right they are told that it is wrong. Your sentiment is hellow if he has no grit to it. Autistics will advocate what they want, irrespective of what bad complaints your narrow vision throws up.
Do not be on the wrong side of history. Please, don't.
I repeat- Those who can advocate for themselves, should. By all mean,s please do. The children I speak of simply cannot. They cannot talk, some of them probably never will. I love those children with all my heart, and I wish someone would discover something to help reach a level where they could advocate for themselves. I'm not even saying that people aren't allowed to disagree with Autism Speaks. That's fine, it's your opinion and I repsect it. I just found this image commparing them to Nazis a bit over the top, and frankly offensive. That's really all I have to say on the matter.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!! My younger brother has a sever form of autism, he might as well be a giant two year old. you have no say in this unless you have a relative who is autistic so SHUT THE FUCK UP
I some what agree. I mean there are some extreem cases that probably deserve treatment but isnt finding a cure for autism like trying to find a cure for republicanism or creativity, or individualism? It just seems a little strange to me that people consider thinking differently a disease.
